Error When Editing veg File
Posted by Jim Prisby on June 16, 2012 at 2:29 pmWhen I place a veg file on my timeline in my project and right click on it to
“Edit in Vegas” (open in another instance of Vegas Pro) I get this error message:An error occurred attempting to launch the application associated with the source project for the media.
(shows veg file path)
Windows was unable to execute the given command. This happens in both Vegas Pro 10 and 11. Can anyone help with this?
Thanks,

June 17, 2012 at 3:35 pmI have not moved any of the media. I even created a new veg file and it gave me the same message. The media is on a Raid 0 set of hard drives but I can’t imagine that is the issue. The other media I have on there works fine in my project. Is it only my problem or is anybody else experiencing this? Please help.

June 18, 2012 at 6:31 amI don’t do RAID. I have a set of HDDs that are pretty much confined to doing one thing and one thing only.
C – System
D – Audio and all audio assets
E – Graphics and DVD creation and Video Assets
F – Major Project rendering and alternative Video Assets
G – DVD-BU
And a “case” Caddy for slotting in Client-Based Projects on their own HDDs.
Pretty much as simple as I could make it. I do Multi-layered nesting and from VP9 > VP11.
My thoughts are that somewhere on the paired HDDs RAID 0 some of the essential Media has gone AWOL. But other than that, as I don’t do RAID, I can’t offer anything further.

June 19, 2012 at 6:33 amThanks for the input but I found most of the problem. I had Vegas Pro 10 and after purchasing Vegas Pro 11 I decided to install it without uninstalling Vegas Pro 10 since there were several reported issues with Vegas 11. Once I was using Vegas 11 with minimal crashes I renamed the Vegas 10 .exe file so it could not be opened. That was causing the problem. Whenever I tried to edit a veg file in a project it wanted to open it in Vegas 10 and not Vegas 11, hence the error message I indicated initially. Once I set the Vegas 10 exe file back to default I could then edit the veg file in Vegas 10. The trouble is I want to use Vegas 11 to edit my veg files and not Vegas 10 but I can’t find how to change that. Yes, I have set the Windows 7 default for veg files to Vegas 11 and the veg files show the Vegas 11 icon but they still open in Vegas 10 when I edit them in a project. This is driving me nuts…any suggestions short of uninstalling Vegas 10 and reinstalling vegas 11?

June 19, 2012 at 1:21 pmProjects created in V11 can only be edited in V11. Projects created in V10 can be edited in V11, but once saved in V11, cannot be edited in V10. I believe it is possible to do a timeline copy from V11 to V10, but some FX will not copy across.

June 20, 2012 at 2:38 amI am using a Ready2Go project from Digital Juice. I open the main project in Vegas 11. It contains several veg files. When I Rt click on one and choose “edit in Vegas” it opens in Vegas 10. I then edit the file and save it. Then go back to the main project in Vegas 11 and find the edits showing and save it. If I want to then edit it some more I just repeat the process. So it does allow me to keep saving the edit in Vegas 10 even though it’s saved inside a Vegas 11 project. Again, I just want to use Vegas 11 exclusively and not Vegas 10 at all. That’s where I need the help.

June 20, 2012 at 3:11 amYou can change the windows file associations by right mouse clicking the veg file, select open with, select Browse and locate the Vegas 11 executable and tick Always use the selected program to open this kind of file, then click apply.
Or you could open each of the V10 projects in V11 and simply save them.

June 20, 2012 at 11:45 pmI’ve already set the file associations to vegas 11 as I stated in detail in a previous response. It doesn’t stop the veg files from opening in Vegas 10. Opening each veg file and saving it in Vegas 11 is a waste of time. I appreciate your input but I’m looking for a solution that will simply open the veg files In Vegas 11.

June 21, 2012 at 11:25 am1. Uninstall Vegas 11
2. Uninstall Vegas 10
3. Install Vegas 11Your projects will remain unaffected. Anything Vegas wants to open will now HAVE to open in Vegas 11.
