Error occured while loading the project file – Please Help
Posted by Roger Bansemer on December 4, 2008 at 2:25 pmI loaded a project today and got this message:
“An error occured while loading the project file (name of file)
proper stream could not be found in the media file”
and in the details each clip had this message that read:
“Media file E:\Train Museum\A-1 Demo.m2t has changed enough that the media stream properties from the project file could not be applied. Default media stream properties were used.”I don’t know what to do to solve this and I have a weeks work in the project. Thanks for any help.

December 4, 2008 at 10:02 pmLook for the backup file and try that first. It is always saved in the same location as the project file…for ex….myproject.veg.bak
Let me know if it works if not then I’ll look at other options. -

December 4, 2008 at 11:14 pmI tried the backup file and I get the same error message. This is a disaster as I’ve put tons of time in the program which I’m making for PBS.

December 4, 2008 at 11:26 pmJust another note of explination:
The entire project opens and I can view the video and the audio. I can see all the timelines, etc. All the music.wav files work fine. BUT all audio clips, although there on the timeline, reads “media offline”.
I can still get the audio when doing a preview in Vegas explorer but when I drag a clip into the timeline there is no audio.
Baffling!

December 5, 2008 at 1:20 amOK lets back up a bit.
Can you tell me if this just occurred? What type of audio files are they? Are they part of a video of solo?
Can you give a little background as to what you were doing prior to getting this message.
Sounds like a setting had been changed but at this point I can’t recall what might cause that. If the media is offline it means it has lost the file on loading because it has been moved or the focus has changed to cause the media to go offline. The latter is unlikely as that affects the whole project when utilizing another software.
I can recall this happening to me in the past but can’t remember what the circumstances were. you can always reset Vegas to the default settings for everything and see if that helps. Sorry I am trying to give you the easiest possible solutions before getting to in depth. -

December 5, 2008 at 1:32 amYou can hold down ctrl shift while launching Vegas to reset it to the default settings.

December 5, 2008 at 1:47 amI really appreciate this website and especially to you for responding.
To answer your questions:
1. The problem files are all of my video clips(m2t)
2. All clips preview fine with audio and video in Vegas Explorer.
3. When dragged into the timeline, the audio disappeares but the video shows up and works. The audio timeline is there however, just no sound with it (and of course I get that error message while loading the project)4. All clips from my project are effected that way.
5. A music wav file plays fine in the timeline.
6. My other projects totally work fine so it’s not a universal problem.
7. When I last closed the program (before the problem) all seemed to be fine.
8. When I go to a different directory from my project directory and place a clip from there into the problem video project, that clip loads but again with no audio.
9. The wavelength doesn’t show up on the audio timeline. It’s just blank.—————————————–
It wouldn’t be so bad but there are hundreds and hundreds of clips, mostly broken up from a few large m2t files of me doing a painting demonstration. Sarah and I are doing a series for PBS called “Painting & Travels with Roger & Sarah Bansemer”
A few of our programs are at https://bansemer.com/painting_demonstrations/painting_videos.htm
if your interested in looking.I always back up my programs on 2 seperate external 1TB HD’s and was just about to do it after finishing the program when this occured.
Thanks again for your help.

December 5, 2008 at 12:27 pmOne more point to add to the post above:
If I create a new audio/video track and then drag a clip into it, it works fine. So it’s that one audio track already placed on the timeline that is causing the problem. And if I drag a clip from the defective audio timeline to a new timeline, the problem still exists.

December 5, 2008 at 1:09 pmJoe, you saved the day.
When I did what you told me about Ctr-Shift to start Vegas, it prompted me that an update was available. I installed the Vegas update and now everything works again.A while back I had to reformat my HD and reinstall Vegas and I guess no update was installed. All seemed to work for a while but then the problem occured. Seems it would have happened the minute I reinstalled but it didn’t. Anyway, I think it’s resovled now thanks to your generous help.
Thank you very much.

December 5, 2008 at 2:46 pmMy fault for not asking what version of Vegas you were using. As I recall in other forums there was a known issue as you described. With so many variations you just never know what the cause or solution may be. This forum has saved me numerous times and is probably the best source of real answers. Even the Sony tech people use it as a knowledge base. In my free time I sit and read through the posts and try to pick up on all the great advice. I’m glad your solution was a simple one. Send along the link when you get your project done, always looking for good house painting tips.

February 4, 2009 at 6:19 pmI,ve got exact the same problem, and it’s not the first time. It happened before at 7 version also. Now I’ve got 8.0b and it’s happening again.
I launched which ctrl+shift but it only deleted my cache and set default settings – sound is still unavailable.
I’m at the end of almost 2 month project and all version of my project even those from last week suddenly got the same problem, so it really looks like some sudden bug in Vegas – not in projects.
Only thing that is sorting this out ( in some way ) is saving as Edit Protocol Compliant AAF. After reopening sound is there but it looses effects settings, markers and so on 😐
