ERROR: “None of the files dropped on Vegas could be opened”

Hi,

I’m trying to import a .MPG file to vegas and i receive this message:

None of the files dropped on Vegas could be opened.

I never had this problem, I always worked with .MPG .

What could be the problem??

PS: This .MPG that I’m trying to open came from a JVC Everio GZ-HD3, that was a .TOD and I converted to .MPG, it works on media player and other editing programs, just Vegas presented problem.
It is a HD video.

Vegas needs the codec to read the file.

Tomaz,

I did a little research and found that you may have transcoded your MPEG2-TS file into a mpeg stream that Vegas
cannot read. Perhaps you should transcode the MPEG2-TS to a the Sony YUV AVI codec. Also I beleive that Vegas can capture your MPEG2-TS stream directly from your JVC via firewire.
Then edit that.

If none of these options sound good to you then go back to the drawing board with your mpg transcode.

What should I do to transcode the MPEG2-TS to a the Sony YUV AVI codec?

I don’t know almost anything about codecs!

All of a sudden I’m having problems adding .mpg files to the timeline. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled Vegas Pro 8 and still get the error.

Is there anyway to reinstall the MPEG codec thru Vegas 8?

These are MPEGs I’ve opened hundreds of times before in Vegas 8 but all of a sudden Vegas 8 doesn’t recognize them

I’m having this problem with a 3.5GB H.264 file from a Sanyo Xacti HD-1010. All the other video files I have recorded work just fine still. Is there a file size limit in Sony Vegas?

Software: Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Pro 9
OS: Windows 7 32-bit

I am getting the same error, “none of the videos dropped on vegas could be opened” when trying to import or drop an mpeg4 from my Olympus camera SD card into Vegas 7 with Windows XP.

I would love to avoid having to convert the mpg4’s into another format because of the time it takes to do that. I am hearing about the codec issue, but I don’t know much about it.

I was wondering if someone could shed some light on this.
What codec does Vegas 7 require?
How could I find it out?
What codec is my mpg4 on the camera in?
How could I found it out?
How can I change it?
I’ve downloaded Xvid decoder, but there’s no instructions, so I have no idea what to do or if it will even work.
