I am trying to load a saved project. When I open Sony Vegas Pro 11, and attempt to load the project, Its starts to load approximately 26% of the project and gives me an error message stating

“An error occurred while loading the project file ……
The file is most likely corrupt or of an unknown format”

I did not notice anything unusual when i saved the project and shut down the computer yesterday.

What can I do to recover my project so I don’t have to start from the beginning and re-edit?

Have you recently uninstalled a plugin from Vegas or
changed/removed any file the project uses?

If not, you can try relocating where the files are, or renaming the folder and when Vegas opens the project, it will prompt you that
the files are missing and then you follow the prompt and select
    their new location/name.

Look for a file with a .veg.bak extensions and rename it to something with a .veg extension. This is the previous save from your project but if a file really is corrupt, you will get the same error message until you figure out which file is corrupt using the method that Steve suggested with renaming the folder and re-finding the files.
