  • Error code -36?

Posted by Michael Freedman on January 26, 2011 at 10:16 pm

    Hello everyone,

I’ve been given a Western Digital external drive with a load of Pro res Qt’s which I have to copy across to my internal drive in my mac. Most of the files copy across fine but there are three which stop half way through the copying process and a ‘this file cannot be read or written error code -36’ message appears. Can anyone tell me why this is and how it can be fixed? Is it a corrupt file, drive?

Many thanks for all your help,
    Michael, London, UK.

Sure sounds like a corrupted file to me. If you dig deep enough in Apple Support online, you can find what some of these system error messages actually mean. But I’d say the copy they made of these files is bad.

Thanks for your reply. I think that’s exactly what it is. Looks like I’ll be re digitising the tapes
