Error Code -36
I’m trying to transfer the media files off my internal harddrive onto a firwire exteranl drive. The files seem to transfer (and some do so with no problems) but many of them say they are unable to transfer due to Error code -36? Anyone else get this? Any suggestions on a better way to transfer media from internal to external?

Is this firewire drive a new one? If so, make sure it’s formatted in MacOS Extended (Journaling off).

this error means that a drive has a bad block.
Verify the SMART status of your drives in Disk Utility. A bad drive will show “Failed” in red. Unfortunately, OS X doesn’t suport SMART for FW drives…

Had this happen to a FW drive about a month ago… a few days later it finally gave up and I had to have it replaced under warranty.
Backup to a different drive and get this one repaired or replaced… it will eventually die on you.
