Activity Forums Panasonic Cameras Error 02

I have a DVCProHD tape shot in 720P on a 126 minute large cassette. I am playing it in an AJ-1200 deck. I am getting an Error 02 for only the first 15 minutes of the tape. It is a lot of blocks on the screen anytime the camera moves across a scene. After the 15 minute mark, the error goes away and all is well. This is only on tape 1…tape 2 also plays fine. I also have three other tapes from the same camera and operator at a different event and they are also all fine.

Error 02 in the manual is pretty vague and doesn’t lend itself to any troubleshooting measures. I tried adjusting the capstan lock to 2 Field, and a few other settings on the deck to try to correct the blockiness…nothing did it.

We are trying to have the camera guy play the tape back in the camera to see if it has the playback issues there.

In the mean time, any thoughts? Wouldn’t you know that the first 15 minutes were the critical parts of the shoot!

On one of the tapes the Error 02 would be intermittent. I repacked the tape by fast forwarding and rewinding it and the errors went away…..however, on this tape even though I got the error, I did not see any of the blockies that I did on the other tape. Actually, nothing looked to be in error to me.

    Hmmmm.

    Anyone?

Just had the same error on a project I was doing. Seems that it was a head clog on mine. I cleaned the deck and it went away. Sounds like it might have been on the camera with your project. It might be a tape path problem on the camera or the deck. Give both a good cleaning and try again. I tend NOT to use a cleaning tape unless there is no other alternative. You can pick up a cleaning kit at radio shack. Remember that the heads are fragile so clean with care.
