November 18, 2005 at 5:44 pmHey Rodney,
CRT monitor hey? Well depends on if you are going SDI or composite? Do you have any analog decks for inputs?
We have a cheaper JVC compostie input monitor here. It works great. What you’re looking for though is an analog output from FCP. There are a few options here. We run the AJA i/o LA, it gives a composite output that we run to our monitor plus it gives component I/O for out beta deck. I think the I/O runs about $1000 but is worked great for us. Another option is getting a Blackmagic decklink card (https://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/sd/) There are a range of cheap cards that work great. If you dont have any need for an analog input you could always just use whatever deck you have and run RCA out to your monitor and use a RCA to BNC adapter to plug into your monitor. Not the best way, but for the $15 it is alot cheaper than purchasing a capture card, especially if its not going to be useful to you. (if you don’t have a need for component or SDI inputs)
Hope this helps!

November 19, 2005 at 1:04 amCheck basic system setup in the manual. If you are running DV, the default way is to connect both your video monitor and speakers out of the deck or camcorder.
Practically everyone ignores the manual, so many don’t even bother with proper system setup-use no video monitor and wrongly connect speakers out of the Mac.
If you use a capture card, then the video monitor and speakers are to be connected out of there. Io? Connect everything out of the Io box.
Now you know the correct methods. 😉

November 19, 2005 at 2:46 amFirst off Mike thanks for taking the time to responed. Your help is appreciated. It sounds like for the short term I can use my DV deck and I will try that out first, I like the idea of saving a few bucks. For the long term though I will begin research of the AJA board. My goal is to make sure that I’m looking at an image that is setup as accurate as possible for my customers (or as close as I can). For now my output for final delivery of the videos will mostly be DVD. Thanks again for the help. RJ
