  • Epic files output 4096 X 2048 black top & bottom??????????

    Hello Guys,

I am putting this out to you all in hopes that you might be able to guide me through this problem. I just had a Red Epic job that I timed out in HD and then tried to render it out at 4096 X 2048. The first time I did it I didn’t initially change the timeline from HD and ended up with a black border all around. I then changed the Timeline to 4096 X 2048 and it still had a black border all around. I tried changing the Auto blanking button on the Format tab. Well that did not seem to help. So then I changed the timeline to its source size 5120 X 2160 and set the output on the Render page to 4096 X 2048 ProRes 4444 it came out better but with a black band top and bottom but edge to edge was fine. So then I went into the Format page and changed the Mismatched Resolution files button to “Stretch frame to all corners”. That distorted the aspect to be to tall and skinny. Now finally I output on the Render page at 5120 X 2160 and it looks fine. Now supposedly this Red Camera shoots at 5K and can output a 2:1 4096 X 2048 for a quazzy wide screen. That is what they framed for. So I can’t seem to get that aspect without a black top and bottom.

Any help or pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    John

i think we’re running into a similar issue maybe.. is it just a one or two pixel black border? or are you running into something more significant?

Hello from my understanding there should be a slight black line because of the aspect difference of 5120 X 2160 to 4096 X 2048. That equates to a 2:37 to a 2:00 aspect. What I am experiencing is more substantial than that. Probably around 10 or 15 lines top & bottom. I can send you still of the difference if that is any help. Or even 1 frame Quicktimes, which a friend of mine checked at a lab for a film out.

    Thank you.

Well I found out that the black borders on top and bottom that come out of Resolve at 4096 X 2048 are 36 lines each.

    Thank you,

    John
