  • Entire captured clip will not open in FCP

I have just encountered a problem I’ve never come across before.

I have captured a 90 min DVCAM tape (via firewire) Sony DSR 11 to an external Lacie hard drive, no problems. Entire tape captured and exists as a quicktime file on the drive.

When I open the quicktime file within FCP however the last 30 minutes are missing ie: when I scroll through the clip in FCP it ends at a certain point even though the captured clip carries on.

Any tips or ideas why this is happening would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have since realised that the first part of the tape has clip properties as follows:

    2 mono/48khz/16 bit integer/720×576/PAL CCIR 601

but after a timecode break on the tape (although the entire tape captured as one clip) the clip properties are:

    1 stereo/48khz/32 bit floating point/768×576/Square

I’m not quite sure at what point in the process or how this has happened. Does any one have experience of this? Thanks.

    Hi
Does the latter part play in QuickTime Player?
If so can you set an in-point at the join point , and an out point at the end, and Save-As a Self Contained new movie, then try that in FCP.
(See QT Player’s Help menu for in-out instructions).

    Hi Paul

Thanks for the response, your suggestion definately worked out.

Any ideas as to why the tape captured in this way, the cameraman assures me no settings were changed, is it an FCP capture issue? Thanks again for the help.
