I noted a bit of business news that might be of interest

    https://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/flash-specialist-spansion-files-chapter/story.aspx?guid={E1289EAC-670B-44C2-A144-E438E8C70935}&dist=msr_1

The article is about a major manufacturer of flash memory products going into chapter 11 with huge accumulated debts.

Now while they are obviously not alone in taking this action is it possible that this might signal the beginning of the end to the downward spiral of flash memory prices and even fortell a rise in prices for almost all of the products we use?

    Just a thought.

    Dan,

I just don’t see companies raising prices to make up for losses in the face of a stinking bad economy. If no one has money, and no one has credit, how the heck can prices rise?

I think R&D will be seriously scaled back, and technological advancement will slow considerably, but I don’t see prices rising.

I would also add that memory/RAM is a special case in that they have been in well documented, epic price wars etc. for almost a decade now. They’ve experienced a decline in value that I doubt many other segments are feeling quite as hard, even CPU mfrs.

That said, and recession notwithstanding, I do think that long term pricing is going to come down on virtually all components that go into everyday gadgetry. It’s just the nature of things, especially as they become so heavily commoditized.
