Encore project preview has no sound and preview video stops prematurely
I made a motion menu that features a video button looping a short movie clip. The clip was transcoded automatically by Encore, and when it plays out in the Encore timeline everything looks fine. But when I preview the menu, the button animates WITHOUT SOUND and STOPS IN THE MIDDLE of the clip instead of at the end and begins looping again. It always loops at the same point, somewhere in the middle of the clip where there is no chapter marker or particular reason for it to stop there. Animated buttons do not play with sound. If you want sound, you must add it to the audio background of the menu.
Regarding how long it plays, check the menu Duration field in the Properties palette. That value is exactly how long your button animation will run

Thanks for the reply. What would cause the sound which is well below being clipped in premiere and encore to sound clipped when moved to a set top dvd player? Does the conversion of the avi (combined vid+audio) within encore cause an issue. Since the audio files were all below a clipped db they were not normalized in premiere before export to encore (not certain if this is the cause of the sound issue). So to fix the audio I tried to select all the clips in premiere to normalize the sound but premiere grayed out the fucntion when all the clips were selected at once. It seems the clips must be normalized individually in premiere or exported to an audio editor, normalized and then exported to encore (but this can’t be right)

“Normalization” does not do what you need it to do in this situation. Normalization takes the loudest sound in a sound file and “normalizes” it to 0 dB.
If, for example, you have 3 normalized audio clips mixed together, then the resulting mix will most likely have audio levels that exceed 0 dB, and likely by a large margin.
In Premiere Pro, you need to make sure that each individual audio track never exceeds about -6 dB to leave a little dynamic headroom. During playback, monitor the Master meters carefully. They should always stay noticeably below 0 dB in order to avoid clipped and distorted exported audio.

You should mixdown all your clips to a separate wave file you import into Encore. It’s hard to conrtrol when you are relying on the programs’ automatisms. Especially for AC3 it’s critical to be more around the -3 dB peak for proper transcodes, not 0.
