    Please help!

I just hooked up my Panasonic DVXPRO AJ-D250 with mini dv adapter to my G5 dual 2 ghz 3gb ddr. have final cut pro 5, Everything is working fine, my log and caprture, viewing on additional monitors, however, when i got to print to video (onto the mini dv using the adapter) it is telling me that the tape may be write protected?? Its a new tape out of the wrapper, the tab is pushed to rec and so does the adapter tell me that is ready to record. So why am I getting this error message? Please help

    Thanks

Does the deck have a REC Inhibit switch on it? My AJ HD1400 does.

Can the deck record via the method you’re trying? For instance our old 1200A deck could not record via RS-422 and if we tried that, we got the Write Protected error.

Walter, thanks, yes on the front display, REC INH is lit up. i am looking now in the manual to see how to take it off using the menu.

If you know, please lend a hand.

    Thanks

I think you’ll need to flip the write protect switch on the adapter, no?

No, that is automactically set from the mini dv. what ever that is set too, is what the adapter will be

it is def the rec inh field that is lit up, i followed the manuals instructions, which is not easy to understand, but what i need is not in the section, everything else but the rec inh. that is explained in the overview of my machine, but when you get into that section there is nothing about the rec inh

The rec inhi light comes on when your tape has rec inhi switched on. The adapter could perhaps be broken an not reading the tape right. Have you tried a larger normal size tape? Process of elimination.

Yes, i did and the same is light up. I am on the phone with panasonic now, however, i have been tossed around to 4 different people so far

but yes i tried. we dont have the remote that comes with the unit, so i tried to do the progrtamming of this from the display winmdow of the unit, but still lit

    Thanks

Does the tape have any media on it? I know this happens with the 1400 sometimes if the tape is in LP mode.

Does this deck actually record mini DV ?….my Panasonic deck will only playback. (only records in DVCPRO—and I actually need to change the menu to DVCPRO)

    Nothing on the tape.

CORRECTION: the big dvc pro tapes will record to, there is no light on when placed in the machine, only with the mini DV.

CAn this deck record to the mini dv. the people at panasonic said yes and they were no help

    this is driving me crazy

    Thanks

No. This deck will not record to mini DV. I just Googled it.

I just double checked my AJ-D640. It only plays back miniDV—no recording.

Not sure if any Panasonic decks record miniDV.

Get a Sony deck if it must be miniDV or DVCAM.
