  • Element 3D – Flickering lines when using custom illumination texture

    Hi guys,

So I have a tent model loaded in Element 3D, and I have loaded a custom illumination texture to make it look like it is lit from within. The scene works… except for one thing, I get these weird flackery lines on the tent. Looking closer, they look like they are polygon lines.

If I go into the models properties within element 3D, and increase the subdivision level, these lines get smaller. Increasing this to the top level and it looks like they almost disappear or become so small that they are not so noticeable, however this slows down Element quite a bit, to the point it causes it to crash, so I can’t really use this as an option.

Does anyone know why I am getting these lines with an illumination texture, and how I can get rid of them without breaking Element… I am so close to a working scene otherwise…

    Many thanks in advance.

That sounds like it might be the polygon lines like you’ve suggested. Are you adding a diffuse texture as well as the illumination texture?

Hi Graham, thanks for the reply. I am using a custom diffuse texture too.

Would it be better to load one of these as an external texture, rather than a custom texture / composition?

It definitely is the polygon lines as if I turn on wire frames, then the lines match up.

So, why are these lines showing at all when it is not selected as an option, and why does it only show up when using an illumination texture. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.
