  EDLs and AUX Timecode vs. Source Timecode

  I’m outputting an EDL out of FCP 5 for transfer to a Fire system. This was a 3 camera shoot that had independent timecodes being generated with an independent timecode slate shot by each camera between cuts. AUX timecodes have been added when the slate is visible so that the cameras can easily be put in sync on command. To do this we open the clip in the viewer, and CTRL-click on the timecode and choose to display “AUX TC 1” instead of the Source TC, and then access that same AUX TC on the other cameras.

  This all works great for putting the clips in sync, but much to my dismay the EDL output by FCP enters the AUX TC for any and all clips that I’ve opened in the viewer and changed the viewable timecode. This gives no acurate way for on-lining the correct material on tape in the Fire suite.

  The question is: can this quirk be over-ridden so that the source timecode is always what is output in the EDL? This would avoid the mistake of accidentally leaving the AUX TC still current in the clip viewer.
