  • EDL with strange filenames…

Posted by Stathis Athanasiou on February 13, 2009 at 6:08 pm

    Hello,
I have been working on a project in my PC with premiere CS4.
My problem is that I am trying to move my Premiere project to FCP via EDL and when I import the EDL in FCP, the imported filenames are irrelevant, so I don’t know what to reconnect with what. Eg, the original filenames are 968_0246_01.mov etc, and the filenames that the EDL brings in are AX1, AX2, …, AX62, UNKNOWN1, UNKNOWN2 etc etc

    Am I doing something wrong?
Isn’t there a way to import an EDL and keep the filenames as they were?

The PC project is an HDV project with cineform avi’s, which I have rewrapped to mov files using HDLink. I have also installed the NEO4K demo on the mac in order to be able to use the cineform codec.

Any help would be much appreciatede

    Hi stathis

EDL’s really dont know from filenames. They only can indicate Source tape numbers, ins and outs, master ins and outs, and rudimentary transitions. They were developed to be used on a linear tape editing system. Since you are dealing with file based media, it just aint gonna happen for you.

You need a product called “automatic duck”. it will allow you to move the project you have from premiere to FCP and keep a lot of information intact.

If you cant afford it, maybe someone here would do it for you at a small charge.

google “automatic duck” and you will see what i mean

    hope this helps
