EDL Timecode Problems
Running FCP Studio 6.0.1 on Dual 2 GHz G5 2.5 GB RAM.
I cut a sequence using multi-clips with digitized DV footage. Source is centercut DigiBeta NDF downconvert from DVCProHD-Varicam (TOD-TC) and sequence is DF DV-NTSC. I flatten the multiclips and need to export an EDL (CMX-3600) for online. When I export my EDL, in certain places where there is a dissolve, the clip is offset on one angle. When I remove transitions while exporting my EDL, the EDL matches the timeline. Luckily, I only have a couple of dissolves in the whole piece.
While I was cutting, I noticed that even though my timecode overlays matched in the Canvas window for all of my tracks, the timeline listed an offset in red on the clips on one of the angles and channels 3 & 4 which were my music captured from my source tapes. Turns out, the offset in the EDL and the offset in the timeline are the same, BUT the source timecode on the multiclip matches the source TC of the other angles and audio in the multiclip.
I tried kicking out an XML to bring it into Cinema Tools, but I can’t really use a change list or flim list for an online. I tried kicking out a CMX-340 or a GVG 4 Plus and the source TC in all of the EDLs is off. I also tried importing the XML back into a new project, but FCP sees the TC with the offset. Again, this only happens on one angle with a dissolve. I tried start/center/end on edit and it’s the same offset. I tried stripping the audio from my sequence and exporting the EDL from there, but it does the same thing.
I can’t figure out where FCP is seeing this offset and how it’s ending up in my EDLs when the source TC all matches. Anybody else seen this anomoly?
