  • Editing SD out of HD Footage

I am going to try not to confuse myself on this one, so please bear with me.

I am going to shoot AVCHD footage from a Panasonic HMC150 at 1080 24p. I want to edit it in SD widescreen 24p if possible. What format do you recommend that I render the raw footage as? I have Cineform and could convert the footage that way, but would rather just render it down to SD in Vegas. I was wondering if anyone recommends a format in Vegas that I could convert the AVCHD footage to some sort of standard def and THEN edit the footage afterwards. Can you edit MPEG 2 from the DVD Architect template? That seems to look pretty good when transferred to DVD, but have no idea how it holds up after editing.

Does this make sense? The HMC150 doesn’t have a SD setting, and I really want to use that camera, so that is my dilemma.

Thanks in advance for all of your help.

I know that I can put it on the timeline. I will be mobile, and my laptop will not edit AVCHD files very well. Plus, I never edit those native files anyway. I always render them as a Cineform AVI. I want to change them to SD PRIOR to editing because they will be output as standard definition anyway.

This can be done without issue….right? I am just asking what I should render it to BEFORE editing.

I have been rendering out Mpeg 2 for delivery to SD. I have been editing the footage with no problems or loss.
