  • Editing Q: How to Apply a Dissolve Only to the Video Track

Posted by Jake Zeer on October 11, 2007 at 1:58 pm

I saw in Avid how you can turn off the Audio Track and apply a Dissolve and only the video track will be dissolved between the two clips and the Audio will just snap together but stay in sync with the video.
Currently I stretch my video to hang over the side of my audio one frame so I can do the dissolve without affecting the sound. Now how is that for a primitive beginners workaround?

    Thanks

I right clicked on the video track and chose ‘crossfade’ and lo and behold it only applied to the video track and not the audio.

Was that what I should be doing or is there another way?

    Thanks

You can turn on “ignore event grouping” and adjust only the video or audio (don’t forget to turn it off afterwards). You can also use a script to adjust only one or the other. There’s many ways you can do this.

you can also put the cursor over the cut in the video track press the “/” key on the NUMBER PAD (must be on number pad) and PRESTO! instant dissolve and the audio doesn’t and stays in sync.

Is there a way to change the default time? I see it’s set to 6 frames.

Options – preferences – editing tab. Change the “cut to overlap conversion” length.
