  • Editing Prores HD Proxy over Gigabit ZFS server.

    Hi,

i’m editing a project over a gigabit lan, all media is in Prores HD Proxy and is sitting on a ZFS server with 8x 4TB in RAID-Z2.

Streaming media over the LAN is working well, it is only the opening and closing of projects which can take up to 5 minutes.

Add some flaky plugins to the mix and you can understand that opening and closing FCP is becoming a real pain.

I was wondering if anyone had experience with this kind of setup and if they knew how to increase performance.

The internal R/W of the server is at about 400 MB/s which could not be the bottleneck. Playing Proxy media generates only about 5 MB/s of network traffic.

Would adding an SSD cache to the mix increase performance? ZFS allows you to add an SSD as a LARC2 cache to increase the IOPS even more.

    THX for the assistance!
    Karel.
