  • Editing in FCP X for a Multi-Channel Video Installation

    Hi–

I am a grad student. I would like to edit for 2 videos that will eventually be projected side by side in my thesis installation. I have both FCP 7 and FCP X on my machine (VERY NEW (within 24hours new to FCP X). Is there a way that I can do this? I first thought that making a canvass that was 2560 by 800 (doubling the native resolution width of my projectors) and then connecting my computer to the projectors and splitting the screen was the answer—but that is really an editing nightmare. I need to see both videos next to each other while I am editing…because video is moving from one screen to the next or taking up both screens. Can anyone point me in the right direction…? Preferable to tutorials for FCP X or give me the vocabulary for search terms that might help me find the answer. Thank you so much!

FCPX can’t make custom, nonstandard resolutions. If I am correct.

Yeah, you are correct. I figured that out last night. I read on here somewhere that Motion or AE will allow me to export to a custom aspect ratio.

Sam I’m trying to do the same in FCPX. Can you tell me what worked for you? Thanks!
