Editing HDSLR with Avid Media Composer 5
Posted by Petr Berger on March 25, 2011 at 7:43 pmHas anybody experience with it? I’m Avid novice, so I dont know much about it, but I’m really courious if it can edit HDSLR footage without problem (and color correct it with Magic Bullet Looks).

March 25, 2011 at 8:07 pmYou use AMA to access and import the footage. And from there you should transcode to DNxHD. Even though Avid marketting and a few people will say that you can edit it native, it really is a bear unless you have a top notch system. Transcoding makes things run smooth as butter.

March 26, 2011 at 11:49 amAMA transcode is to DNxHD is faster than the import process. AMA is near real time, while import is 2x to 2.5x longer. Also, 5.5.1 give the same if not more control over levels via AMA as the traditional import.

March 26, 2011 at 9:01 pmI’ve never noticed a speed increase with transcoding over importing.
but, I’ve also never bothered to time it.Scott Cumbo
