Editing for Iphone – Sequence Settings (FCP 7)? And other?
Hey all, Thanks in advance for any help.
I’m editing a video for use on the traditional iphone on Final Cut Pro 7. It’s basically a series of stills animated Ken Burns style with pans and zooms.
It’s my first time editing for iphone (and for that matter editing stills). Can anyone tell me what sequence settings I should be using to I. keep render times down to a minimum and also II. to get the best quality export when I’m ready to export and compress?
I know the frame size (640×960) but that’s about it. The source media are pgn files ranging in size and also resolution from 1283×1650 to 2408×3508.
So basically … what sequence settings should I use? and should I think about converting the files in some way before bringing them into final cut 7?

Use a native sequence setting that FCP likes. If I were you, I would use a ProRes 720p (1280×720) setting. When you are finished, export a self contained movie and drop that into Compressor and use the preset for iPhone.

I agree with Steve, use an HD Sequence to edit, then export and bring into compressor.

Dave, I’ve been working in FCP so far. Movement on stills look quite good so far. What exactly makes Motion (which I’ve never used, I’m more of a Nuke guy) better? I’m also worried how long getting acquainted with Motion will take as I am on a one week deadline?
