I’m looking to buy a Dell Studio XPS 435 desktop to replace my 3 year old computer which is way to slow for editing AVCHD.

After searching the internet for days trying to find out if this is a good choice I found nothing.

So my question is, is there anyone on this forum using the Dell Studio XPS 435 Desktop editing AVCHD with Sony Vegas Pro 8.1 and how is it working.

The unit I’m thinking of ordering will have the following.

Intel i7 920, 6gb ram, video card ATI Radeon HD4850 with 512MB video memory, 750gb H/D SATA, I have two external drives, Windows Vista Home Premium 64Bit and Sony Vegas Pro 9.0 which I hope to receive any day now.

I need to know if this will do the job with out spending allot more money.

My main concern is the preview window playing back native AVCHD without losing frames or stuttering.

Any feedback would be appreciated please.

Consider an internal Sata Raid. I have (2) Sata drives internally striped as Raid 0 (I backup to another complete system)in my studio workstations. AVCHD on the timeline simply plays better in Vegas 8.0c and 8.1. It is cheap and easy to do. I also would consider 8 GB of ram on a 64bit system as minimum.
