all of a sudden, trying to insert a couple fixes to tape, I’m only getting black, not picture…only inserting video

    HDCam SR
    FCP 6.0.4
    Blackmagic Decklink latest software
    4GB ram

it worked for the whole show, but will not allow us to insert edit just the fixes.

edit to tape is set to Mastering, and I believe In to Out is checked…need to confirm. Problem is, we have 4 systems with Blackmagic cards, and 4 with Konas, and this particular is using local storage, big hassle to move it to a Kona room…

are there any gotchas when inserting with the Blackmagic card I should know about?

well, it was the editing/mastering tab…should be on editing, but for some reason, mastering was on…editor doesn’t know why….oh well…thanks for listening!

I’ve been having the same issues. I spoke to apple about it at length, and the only thing they did was blame Black Magic.
Here’s what I have figured out. Insert editing works infrequently, and it does seem that it’s luck of the draw.
I have had better success when the deck is connected directly to the Final Cut with no router in between. I’ve had more success with a DVW a 500 deck as opposed to a 2000 deck. For what it’s worth, if you choose entire Media when you’re laying off in insert mode, the layoff works fine. Doesn’t really help, for a quick insert, but it does point out that there is a bug…

Got a lot of people trying to figure this one out…. will let u know if I hear anything.

okay… so here’s what I figured out. This is in SD, and I can’t vouch for HD.
You cannot insert edit onto a tape if your in or out point is on a video or audio transition. Start the frame before or the frame after your transition, and it should be fine.
Also if your in and out on the time line do not match the in and out on the Edit to tape window, it won’t work. you end up with that frame of black, and the deck doesn’t respond correctly.
You should also be in Editing, and not mastering on your edit to tape window to do the inserts.

    hope this helps
