  • Edit MPEG from harddrive camera?

Posted by Tim Veal on October 29, 2007 at 10:39 pm

I have a client who gives me mpg files from his camera harddrive to edit. I then dump the files directly into Premiere (CS3) to edit. Sometimes this works, sometimes the video goes in but I don’t get the audio (AC3 variant). There is audio on the clips because I can view them in Media Player with audio. He says the camera settings are always the same. Any thoughts on how to get the audio all the time?

Tuff one, it could be one of those 5.1 mics; consumer mpeg is really unreliable.

I would ask him if he would be willing to drop his camera and do an analog capture instead, tell him he’ll save money on your time spent trying to convert the footage.

Yeah, I told him I might run into issues with the mpeg camera before he bought it, but it fit his needs the best. If I can’t find a good way to convert the mpeg than an analoge capture sounds like a good alternative.

    Hi,

I am facing the same problem. Is there no other option to import the audio. Shooting again might not be an option.

    Please suggest.

Well I just renamed the MPG files to avi and it started working. No conversion no problems.
