I wish to do a rough edit in Vegas 8 (shot in HD)and then hand it off to someone else who uses Edius as an editing program to tidy things up. Is saving my program as an EDL the best and only way to go? What are my options?
    Thanks for any help.

You can try an EDL but there’s no guarantee it’ll work.
One caution is to stick to cuts and fades only.
No FX as what works for one NLE won’t be recognized by another.

I’m curious as to what Edius can do (tidy things up) that Vegas can’t.

echo mike entirely. in the old days a cmx edl was universally acceptable in any edit suite – now, with proprietary nle’s, you never know.

and why would you finish in edius, unless you wanted a more convoluted work flow….

Concerning finish editing in Edius is this. I use Vegas but my friend has never used Vegas and finds it easier to edit with what he is familiar with.

I’ve been given the green light to produce series for American Public Television and then the first 13 episodes are finished APT is going to make them available to 350 PBS stations around the country. It’s a big deal for me. Right now my wife and I have done all the shooting and editing but as the series gets rolling, I know I won’t have the time to edit. My thoughts were to do a rough edit and turn it over to someone else to clean it up, etc.

The series will be called “Painting on Location with Roger Bansemer” Sarah and I travel, I set up my easel and do a painting on location and also include a short travelogue in the show as well.

I have some of my episodes online at my website if you’re intrested. http://www.bansemer.com/painting_demonstrations/painting_videos.htm

I’m a bit nervous about accomplshing all there is to accomplish with this project. After we do our final edits, the programs have to be sent out for masters in HD, closed captioning, etc. What a job! But exciting.

Roger, first of all, congratulations on the series.
That’s got to be a great feeling!!!

My only Edius suggestion would be to try a short EDL to ensure compatibility between the two platforms.
Once again, cuts and fades only.
