    Hi all,

I have recently bought the Edirol r44 and a Rode NTG 2 for recording interviews with video on the field. I’m having a really strange problem. It seems i cannot get levels more than -18 and this is only when the Edirol sensitivity is at -56 dBu (and therefore more noise occurs). This is with the rode mic no more than 2foot away from the speaker.

Am i doing something wrong within the Edirol? Or is it the sensitivity on the NTG 2 not good enough for interviews. The rode is marketed at being a ‘lightweight condenser shotgun microphone, designed for professional applications within the film, video, television’, Exactly what i want! The edirol is a really good unit and is also used within broadcast.

Am i missing some vital ingredient?

    Thanks for all your time.
    Appreciate any advice.

    John

Phantom power issue perhaps? 48v phantom required.
