“Ecko Artifacts” Promo – Need Advice recreating one of the graphical looks
Hey guys and gals –
I’m totally digging the new(ish) Ecko Artifacts promo (by 4DThieves) but beyond all, I’m REALLY into the second scene with the green dollar bill like textures that move, the light green hash marks moving in the actual objects, and the slick outlines – pretty much everything about that quick 10 or so second scene. Can anyone offer me some advice on how I could achieve that look or a similar one?

According to the interview they did it primarily with Sketch & Toon lines and the Hatch shader.

You’ll have to put your own bitmap in the hatch shader. Basically it’s just a pencil-type black stroke on a white background.

One quick question – in the comp you sent me, how do you get rid of the lines that go out of the objects symmetry – making + signs on all of the edges? This is especially noticeable with text.

That’s caused by the opacity setting I used in the sketch material. I was doing that as a quick-and-dirty glow effect. Just disable the “from line” opacity and then do the glow properly in post. I’d also get rid of the Cinema glow post effect, but that’s up to you.
