Echoed images
Posted by Gennaro Ambrosino on February 5, 2009 at 9:16 amHello,
I hope this is the right section and that I can get some help here.
I’m working on a video in Final cut; the first time I worked with 960×540 footage (captured with imovie hd); the result was good but I wasn’t happy with the result I got when I uploaded on Youtube (the standard quality was pretty bad)…I then decided to recapture my footage in full HD 1920×1080 hoping to get a better result on Youtube but now when I playback (also after exported it) some images, the fastest ones (it’s a martial arts movie) show a kind of echo (without any filters applied).
Does anyone know the reason of this and how I can fix it? your help is highly appreciated…
Thanks
Gennaro

February 5, 2009 at 1:50 pmWhy are you capturing with iMovie?
What is your source material, and framerate?

February 5, 2009 at 10:24 pmThank you for your reply David.
I’m moving my really first steps with this and it seemed to me easier to use imovie to capture the footage.
I’m sorry to write this but I’m not too sure where to find out about source material and frame rate. I filmed in hdv with a sony fx7e.
For what I’ve seen online I think it’s an issue of de-interlacing but not too sure how to solve this.
please help!
Thanks
Gennaro

February 5, 2009 at 10:28 pmhi Jeremy,
it’s not online yet. This is the link to the previous one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQUDYlA13LY) which was captured as 960×540 but as the standard quality on youtube is quite low I’ve decided to recapture it in full 1920×1080 and this is where I’m having this problem.
Thanks
Gennaro

Easier is not better, at least in this case. You’ll need to learn FCP eventually, why not now?
If you follow the brief tutorial below every time you begin a FCP project from now on, you’ll go on to fame an fortune as a FCP editor.

February 6, 2009 at 7:31 amThanks David! you’re a star!
the problem was obviously there!
There’s only one more thing that I need to understand please:The sequence I was working with before was:
1920×1080
aspect ratio: square
compressor: hdv 1080p 25while my clips are:
1440×1080
aspect ratio: HD(1440×1080)
compressor: iCodecWhen I change the sequence settings to match my clips settings it does solve the “echo”/de-interlacing problem but for some reason the image is now stretched.
If I create a new project/sequence with the right settings and drag the initial sequence, it asks me if I want to match the sequence settings with the item settings and if I say no it just matches it to the sequence settings and all looks fine. Though it’s one merged sequence which I can’t edit (unless double click and go back to the previous one); instead if I copy all the edited clips on the initial sequence to paste them to the new correct sequence it just place them and they look stretched.(hope I’m making sense!)
Is there a way to fix this, without me starting all over again and rebuild the sequence from the original unedited clips?
Thanks
Gennaro

February 6, 2009 at 11:07 amTo get rid of the stretched image you need to change distort to zero (in the motion tab) of all clips. To do for all, select all clips by and then right click on one and choose Remove Attributes>>Distort.
