EASY? way to convert XDcam files to .mov files?

There’s a calibrated plugin for MXF you can search for. But if some of the key files are missing you’re basically SOL and would need the original archives from the camera. I’m sad to see there are still camera operators out there acting so unprofessionally as to not create full archives of their footage- but you learn who not to rehire…

Doesn’t anyone believe in making sure people are qualified to do a job anymore.

If you have the .mp4 a valid BPAV (registered file?) can be created with ClipBrowser 2.6 or XDCAM Transfer 2.12

Either you haven’t tried them all or the plugin below didn’t work. If you haven’t tried them all please don’t make claims or people will make wrong assumptions. One someone posts a question or problem please LIST WHAT YOU’VE TRIED rather than make sweeping statements as you may not “know” or “tried” “all.”

CalibratedSoftware has a plugin that can import the EX .mp4 directly into FCP.

I believe the latest versions of CalibratedSoftware plugins no longer need all the metadata. It’ll work with “orphan” files.

I appreciate your help but am using another program: iskysoft video converter ($35 vs $90 for the calibrated software deal).

XDCAM Transfer v2.12 will see ‘orphaned’ (i.e. pulled from the BPAV directory structure) .mp4s; you do not need any other plug-ins. Gather them in one or more folders and add the folders as sources in Transfer.

Keep in mind there are other people reading and lots of people have bad habits. Imagine those of us who have to deal with gun shy clients who think file based shooting is unreliable when they worked with production shops who screwed up their last project and the shop blamed the format.

ooh cool. i’ll try gathering the orphaned files into a new folder and try using XDCAM Transfer v2.12. i was just about to click “pay” for the iskysoft software (which btw: i tested in demo version and it worked!)

Ian, drat…that didnt work. I went to import> Sony XD cam…and imported my “orphaned files” folder …but “0 clips” were in the folder. drat.

You are clicking ADD SOURCE or File–>Add Source? Using 2.12? See below..

You can also try using Clip Browser to File–>Import the MP4s into a new BPAV, but the loose MP4s should be showing up.. You may want to clear the cache (Prefs–>Cache) and delete any old sources that referenced these files.
