Easiest way to batch swap video in multiple sequences?
Hello good people of CreativeCow,
I’ve got a question about some batch video swapping. I’m looking for a solution that will allow me to easily swap out the video track for about 70 different sequences. All of the sequences have the exact same audio tracks, and only one 20-second video clip per sequence (which needs to be swapped). The length of the sequences are all the same.
I’ve considered doing this via an after effects script or plugin, but with the TV station I work for, we need the audio to remain on tracks 1-2 and 7-10. According to what I’ve read, After Effects cannot export multiple audio tracks like this.
I know some programming and was considering coming up with an extension for Premiere that might allow me to do this, but I’m not sure if it’s going to be possible with Premiere’s limited API.
Does anyone know of a simpler way to solve this rather than doing it manually? This is something that needs to be done multiple times per month, and it’s going to be a pain to do it manually each time.
I’m open to suggestions about other programs besides Premiere that may be able to handle this.

is it the same source on multiple timelines?
or different sources on each timeline?

Well…
the initial set up would be tedious…
but if you did do the movie clips AE comps
then used the dynamic linked comps as your video clips in PPro sequences…
then you could use
comps from spreadsheets to update your AE project…
and the changes would ripple thru Ppro

Another thought occurred to me…
if you could set up a naming convention for the source files…
you can then make the soucre material in PPro offline and then relink to the new media in a different folder but with the same file names…multi-relink is certainly doable in PPro.
it might be useful to patch rename the previous source files as _off to make sure they don’t inadvertently get reconnected…
but I bet there are any number of ways you could handle the automation of source file naming..
another hint is that I’d keep the source file folder flat…don’t use subfolders within that folder….just pile all the source clips in one directory to make it easy for PPro to discover…

Thanks for these suggestions. I’m going to give the second one a shot and see if that solves it for me.
