    Hey all

I’m trying to achieve a falling text animation using cinema 4D. Where in the text that is on a page of a book starts to fall away from the center of a line to either edge, then line by line until it all gathers at the bottom of the page.

So far I’m doing alright. I’ve brought in my illustrator file of the text and made each character into a polygon object, then applied Dynamics and set up some invisible walls and ground for them to fall onto.

Its just that they are all falling at the same time! Is there anyway I could get them to fall individually?

Any help would be greatfuly appreciated, I’m tearing what’s left of my hair out!!!

    Cheers
    John

With all the letters in one Solver, I don’t think so. Dynamics uses the conditions at the first frame to run from so you can’t change the mass of each later and get it to do something. You’d have to use a different Solver for each letter or use Clothhilde. (A simple example)

    Hi Brian

I’ve tried out both your suggestions. Thank you again, but neither seem to be working for me.

When I tried using Clothhilde the text crumpled when it collided (even when i knocked up the stiffness).

When I separated them into different solvers they didn’t interact with each other.

    Am I missing something obvious?

    Cheers

re. Separate solvers in Dynamics – nothing can be done that I know about Solvers weren’t meant to do that. Dynamics is older and while it does simple things well it’s not real fancy. There are other collision engines out there – SilverBullet (and something else I can’t remember right now, someone?) they are plugins not free but probably can handle it (never used them myself) ….and 11.5 has Mograph Dynamics now, don’t have 11.5 yet and don’t know if it could do it but maybe.

re Clothhilde – the more complex an object the more it’s going to flex even if very stiff, a couple of things are possible – try maxing Flexion (in spite of it’s name it’s a form of stiffness) that might help (but not too likely)
    – you could wrap an invisible proxy object (a simple cube(rectangle)) around each letter, make the letter be the child of the proxy but the Cloth tag on the proxy. It it fits tightly the collisions would look fairly good, of course if you need very realistic collisions it might not be accurate enough.

    Look up ‘trigger’ in Mograph2.

Can’t remember the details but I saw a nice demo recently of exactly this sort of thing on the Maxon website. Allbeit with falling footballs onto a globe surface!

I’m afraid, I’m using C4D v10, so the dynamics options are a bit crap’ola! Thanks for the response tho, I’m not really sure how I’m going to go about this now, prob keying it! (sniff sniff)
