Dynamically highlighting a graphic
I’m working on a project that requires different portions of a graphic to ‘highlight’ or ‘come alive’ to illustrate points the narrator is making. I’m working with the Chinese symbol for Yin/Yang.
I was hoping to learn how others would approach this process. For example, as the video progresses I need to make the black and white ‘fishlike’ sections prominent on cue; likewise with the black and white dots within the ‘fish.’
Any suggestions about’best practices’ for doing this kind of effect?

A simpler way would be to just take the elements into Photoshop and create elements as graphic pieces. To highlight a section of a graphic, simply take that element, add a glow to it for instance and , while in your timeline cut or dissolve to that element from the non-effected element. The result is that section will appear to glow and highlight itself. Make each piece of the graphic with both a glow and without. By simply editing in the different pieces as your timeline progresses, you can “highlight” any section of it. Much quicker and simpler that the traveling matte route.
