I have a PowerMac G5 for about three years now. Just bought two 23″ Cinema Displays for editing with FCP. Both the monitors have DVI connection. However my G5 has one DVI and one ADC connection. I called Apple support and they told me to buy the ADC to DVI adapter. I said would it be a problem since I have a DVI monitor going to an ADC computer connection, not the other way around. He said no problem. So I went out today and bought it. Well it doesn’t work! I was right that it’s only for an ADC monitor going to a DVI computer connection.

Tech support is closed at this time. How do I connect my second monitor to my G5?

I sure hope I will get a full refund on the adapter.

You must be doing something wrong.

We’ve got a whole building full of twin 23″ Apple cinema displays. Every G5 has one DVI plugged in and one ADC to DVI adapter going to the second cinema display.

When you say it doesn’t work, do you mean that you have a black monitor? No picture, no nothing? Power plugged in?

The adapter I bought connects a monitor with an ADC cable to a DVI Computer input. It should be the other way around. I should have an adapter that connects a DVI monitor to an ADC computer input. Is there two different kind of adapters? I didn’t see that option online or at the store.

    This is what I bought.:

Yes there are the two kind of adapters and more. Think if you have two VGA how do you conect them without the inexpensives Apple adapters?
Have you open the System Preferences/ Displays and have you click the “Detect Displays”? Set as well the “Show Displays in the Menu Bar”. Then click the small screen in the menu bar and in Number of Recent Items set 10. May work.
    Cheers,

You need the DVI to ADC. It should only cost $30-$40. Mine worked perfect on my G5.
