DVDA3 can’t see Pioneer 108 DVD burners
Posted by Doug Graham on July 17, 2006 at 4:17 pmI recently built a new computer, and moved my two Pioneed 108 DVD burners into it. I updated their firmware at the same time.
After installing Vegas 6.0d and DVDA 3.0c, DVDA doesn’t see the Pioneer drives. Other apps, including Vegas, DO see the drives.
I’ve tried the suggestions in Sony’s knowledgebase, but no luck.
Anyone else have, or better yet, have solved, this problem?

July 17, 2006 at 10:30 pmsame motherboard same problem; however, i was having some SATA issues, and i went to the NVidia website and downloaded/installed the latest chipset drivers, including the ide device drivers, and discovered quite by accident that the next time i was in DVD Architect, i was once again able to burn DVDs directly. Previously i had just prepared with DVD Architect, and burned with Nero.

Yep, me too – thanks for posting your results cmallam. I have had this problem with this mobo as well, I will have to try upgrading the chipset drivers – was going to flash the bios too. Just waiting till’ I’m between projects so I don’t screw myself in case things get ugly 🙂
Was the driver installation painless? What kind of Sata problems were you having?

July 21, 2006 at 1:47 pmYes! The new drivers fix the problem.
To recap:
After installing my Pioneer 108 DVD burners and Sony DVD Architect 3.0 in a new computer, DVDA refused to “see” the DVD burners. Sony’s knowledgebase recommends setting the burner’s jumper to “Master” rather than using “Cable Select”, and upgrading the burner’s firmware. Neither of these procedures solved my problem. My computer uses an ASUS A8N-SLI Premium motherboard, which uses the NVIDIA NForce 4 chipset. On your advice, I downloaded and installed the latest NForce drivers from the NVIDIA website.
Installing the new drivers fixed the problem, and DVDA now sees both DVD burners!
No, it wasn’t hard. Just make sure you download the right drivers for your processor type. NVIDIA recommends uninstalling the old drivers first; no problem, using Control Panel/Add and Remove Programs, but make sure you don’t uninstall the display driver. After you uninstall, Windows will find your hardware and want to install drivers; tell it “no”, run the downloaded NVIDIA install program, and reboot. Even though I’d kept the display driver, I had to re-set my display properties afterward.
