DVD Exporting from D1 to DV
I’ve been running into a slight hurdle lately since I switched from a Matrox RTX.100 DV system to the Decklink Extreme. From Premiere Pro I could export a Quicktime (lower field first), m2v (lower field first), or whatever and then just bring it into Encore (where it would be transcoded if needed) and author the DVD without issues. Everything worked great because the workflow was always in a DV format (which is DVD as well). Now when I export out of Premiere Pro using a D1 decklink workspace setting, I run into a serious problem that I’m sure must have a work around. If I export a straight Quicktime it comes out as D1 (720×486) with fields. I bring it into Encore where it get’s transcoded and then burned. The problem is that Encore is squeezing the 720×486 clip down to 720×480 in effect squeezing the fields so I get an obvious field shutter effect. If I export out at 720×480 I still get the field problem because the original source footage is D1 720×486. My workaround is to export out at D1, bring it into After Effects (interpret as lower field first) and create a DV 720×480 comp that I place the D1 clip into. This works because the extra 6 pixels sit outside the top and btm of the frame and the fields stay aligned. This feels like an unnescary step. What do you do?
