  • DVD ARCHITECT… Track cannot be recompressed because its bit rate is too low

Posted by Mark Krueger on December 10, 2011 at 3:26 pm

I have been using DVD A for several years now and have just recently been experiencing this problem. When I go to make a DVD I get the message that the video has a bit rate that is too low and the track cannot be recompressed. I have done all that I know to make this work, changing the bit rate in the properties, checking optimizing and allowing the recompressed to use default bit rate etc. Nothing seems to work. I read some old posts on this, but didn’t see much help. I did uninstall and then reinstall DVD A, but no help.

    Any help here?

I’ve dealt with this, and usually it’s been easy enough to get around. When you go to burn a disc, if it’s too big, then there’s some option to “Optimize disc” or something like that. When you click on it, you can either click “Fit to disc”, or you can use a slider on the left to control the disc size, and you will see how big it will be on the right. Just find a spot that works that will be large but still fit on the disc.

    How long is your program?
    What bitrate(s) have you tried?

The total media is one hour 32 minutes. DVD Architect indicates it is 104% 0f a 4.7 gig disc.
After I tell it to recompress, and fit to disc, it uses a 5.7 bit rate and tells me it is 95% capacity of the disc, So I would think it would be good to go, but the error message is still there.. (bit rate too low).

When I start a project in DVD architect, under the properties it indicates a bit rate of 8.00. As soon as I add media to the project that bit rate drops to .0192 . I get the error message and I change that bit rate to the highest 9.6 and as long as the video is short enough everything is good to go, but a long video does not work with any bit rate.

Why does the bit rate change when I add media?

First of all, DVDA has a long history of incorrectly reporting file sizes so I ignore most of the error messages it throws at me.

For a program of that length, a bitrate of 5.7 is just fine (low but OK).

If my program is under 70 min. long, I always use a custom CBR setting of 8,000,000.
Anything longer and I do a 2-pass encode using a custom VBR setting with the values I get from the bitrate calculator found at https://www.johncline.com/bitcalc110.zip
I make a few changes to the default settings by clicking the Settings button (lower left) on the main screen.
    Click 1 Kilobit = 1000 bits.
Set the Default Audio Encoding to 192 Kb/s (this is the default for AC-3 audio encodes).
Change the Safety Margin from 1% to 5% (I like to give myself a bit of extra room).

    For your program, I get VBR values of 3,704,000 / 6,176,000 / 7,728,000

If you’re not sure about doing Custom settings, check out my screenshots in the Am I getting the best possible image quality with my settings? thread.

How to I setup or do a 2 pass encoding?

If you followed my recommendations on creating a Custom render template, the two-pass mode option is directly above the boxes where you enter the numbers (look at step #3 in the screenshot I linked to and you’ll see that it’s been selected).

I got an answer that I wanted to share. Sony Creative support told me to Open the progam while holding “CRTL and SHIFT”. This gives you this option.

Check the box to delete all cached application data and Choose “YES”.

After I did this, the bit rate stayed at 8 in the properties window and I did not get the error message that the track cannot be recompressed because its bit rate is too low.

It cost me $29.95 to get this answer so I hopes somebody else!
Thanks for all you who have helped me in the past!

Thank you so much for posting the answer. I’m been using Vegas since version 6 and this was driving me crazy. It worked the first time.

    Mark

I had exactly the same problem as you, and have spent the past 4 days trying to find the solution. Your answer is the only one I’ve found which works.

How annoying it must be for all of those who have asked in the past and had answers which clearly showed that the person answering either hadn’t read the question or didn’t understand it.

Just before finding your solution, I sent an email to Sony support. It’ll be interesting to see if they want to charge me $30 for the answer.

    Regards and thanks

    Tony
