DVD Architect chapter scripting
Posted by John Wild on January 26, 2011 at 9:17 pmAuthoring projects in Architect 5.0. When previewing disc in Architect everything navigates fine. When I put the burned disc into a DVD player, the titles are not created “in order”, so when i am playing one title and hit “next” or “skip” on the remote, it will not go to the correct next title. If I let each title play until the end, it will properly go where I want it based on the end action I chose. I’m looking into scripting for the first time to find a way to correct this and looking for any answers or advice.

January 26, 2011 at 10:21 pmHave you tried changing the order of the media in DVD Architect? I’m talking about rearranging the media in the tree view on the left. Are you noticing that your DVD player is skipping in the same order as the media on the left? I would have thought that skipping would follow the end actions but perhaps it follows the file layout. I don’t think that scripting will allow you to change this. Scripting has more to do with how menu buttons behave, not your remote control buttons.

January 28, 2011 at 2:29 pmYes, all the media is in the correct order in the left pane window. The navigation selections are also correct, again, because if I let the tites play through to their “end action” they do jump to the correct next title. It’s only when I hit the “skip” or “next” button on my DVD deck remote that they go to the wrong title. So I’m wondering, since my media is in the correct order in the Architect window, why are the titles not written in that order on the DVD itself. For example, the first piece of media listed in my project comes up as “title 3” on the actual DVD, and the second pice of media listed in my project comes up as “title 6” on the DVD when playing in a desktop player. Would it have anything to do with the order in which I import the media into the Architect project? Thanks!

Hmmm… could be a bug in DVD Architec. I would ask Sony support. Only they would know how DVD Architect is actually writing to the disc. (although I think you’ve proven that it’s seems random)

January 28, 2011 at 4:20 pmThanks John. My instincts may have been correct here. I started a new project and imported the media in the exact order I wanted them “titled” and it seemed to work. In other words, the first clip I imported was written on the disc as Title 1, the second as Title 2…etc. So it doesn’t seem to matter which order you place them in the left pane of Architect, it will automatically title them according to the sequence they were imported into the project.

Hmmm… that’s good to know. Thanks for testing this out. I guess the order in which you add media makes a difference.
