DVD Architect and DVD-9
I have four 45 segments of a documentary I have produced that I hope to market soon. If I use the standard way of burning in Sony’s DVD Architect it will take 4 Disks and then of course 2 twin pak amaray cases to hold them.
I was thinking that consumers would prefer just two 1.5 hour disks instead. I was thinking that the only way I can do this is to burn to DVD-9. I am using whiteface DVD’s by Taiyo Yuden which are only 4.7 Gig.
I would assume that DVD-9’s are much bigger and I am not sure if Taiyo Yuden makes DVD-9. I am also not sure if my standard Pioneer DVD burner that came as standard hardware with my computer would burn DVD-9’s as well.
Is there settings in DVD Arch to produce DVD-9?

Taiyo Yuden does not make 8.5gb dics…try verbatim, they work fine. You can get unbranded at most online disc stores. If you go to DVDA project screen you can select 8.5 as the size instead of 4.7….good luck!

I’ll go ahead and throw in that we’ve been using nothing but Verbatims in-house since 2002 and the company we use for larger (over 150) copies uses Verbatims also. However we tend to only use dual layer dvd’s on jobs that we order over 500 copies so they get pressed instead of burned. I know there were a lot of compatibility issues with burned dvd-9’s back when they were new, but is the consensus that enough people have compatible players nowadays that it’s okay to distribute those?
