April 6, 2007 at 8:27 pm[David Battistella] “”Good Eats” might be so US specific that the broadcaster wants 1080i but since tehy shoot Varicam it would make sense to do a 24P universal “distribution” master that would satisfy any format. Walter could answer why or why not that would be a huge burnden in his life.”
I only deliver what the network asks for. 1080i/60 is what they want. The show is not shot in 24p anyway so no reason to create that format.
Another show I deliver internationally has a spec of 1080i/50 for the master. All networks want something different.

April 6, 2007 at 10:45 pm[David Battistella] “You are not wrong about 24P HDCAM masters. More and more as programs are being created for international distribution the 24P format is a much better universal mastering format as it deals with progressive images and is much easier to go to any worldwide format…..Many producers do not want to go the “extra Step” and load the front end costs, but it does make for easier transition to PAL, SECAM and other NTSC formats and worldwide digital standards. “
I second this,
too many people in the US (and Canada) forget that the rest of the world broadcast content mastered at 25p that plays at 50i (HD is 50i/50p depending on country and or broadcaster.) While there is not a color difference in the HD signals the frame rate is still playing havoc with US broadcasters trying to deliver content to the rest of the world.gary adcock
