If you were truly going from 720p DVCPro HD to 720p HDCAM, then the LH would handle this just fine. As shane points out, HDCAM is 1080i.
If this is going to be a regular workflow for you, you really should invest in the Kona 3 as you can master directly to HDCAM from your 720p DVCPro HD timeline.

I hear you. People who migrated from AVID, as I did years agao, were used to a very solid mefia manager. I have grown to love FCP’s MM and it has served me well. I know that you may have just heard the THUD of peoople fainting, but I really think it works very well for the most part. I wish it was not so ties to media being online, but the thing to do is experiment with media manager when there is no gun to your head and take the time to learn it. It actually does what it is supposed to do and that could be one reason the FCP team has stuck with it. (aside fromt the fact that they couldn’t write any ground up system within FCP).
Peace and Love 🙂

April 6, 2007 at 1:01 pmWhen is there not a gun to your head in this business. Producers are always pushing until the last possible minute especialy since the NLE days when they can keep changing the darn thing. You used to say it waa good enough when reassemble ment starting over on a CMX or the like.

Heck Media 100’s management software is still something I much prefer to FCP’s current Media Manager.

April 6, 2007 at 1:32 pmYes. I know. FIlemaker Pro might be a better media manager than FCP’s media Mangler.

April 6, 2007 at 7:10 pmThat’s been my experience with FCP’s media manger, as well. It’s as good as what you give it. If you’re tapes are logged properly (ncluding reel names!), and you’ve done the all-important “Make Sequence Clips Independant” step it works pretty well.
If all of your media was crash captured using “Capture Now”, and your reel names are spotty, then you’re just SOL.

You are not wrong about 24P HDCAM masters. More and more as programs are being created for international distribution the 24P format is a much better universal mastering format as it deals with progressive images and is much easier to go to any worldwide format.
Many producers do not want to go the “extra Step” and load the front end costs, but it does make for easier transition to PAL, SECAM and other NTSC formats and worldwide digital standards.
“Good Eats” might be so US specific that the broadcaster wants 1080i but since tehy shoot Varicam it would make sense to do a 24P universal “distribution” master that would satisfy any format. Walter could answer why or why not that would be a huge burnden in his life.
