  • DVCPro50/Kona3/FCP6 not playing nicely

I had a 10-Bit uncompressed SD timeline that I needed to take offsite to master so I exported a QT with DVCPro50. Brought the new file is and tested it out, it looked horrible, jaggies and pixelated. have to master other files so I took this file with me. That same file on my MBP with Io out to a Digibeta was just fine.

Seems like DVCPro codecs are not working correctly with FCP6 and the Kona3 card. Anyone else having problems?

System is 8-core Intel, AJA Kona driver 4.0, OS 10.4.9 File on an external Sata drive. Also tested on my SATA RAID

What frame size was the dv50 file? 720×480 or 486? You 10 bit timeline is 486, the dv 50 file should have 4 pixels cropped from top and 2 from the bottom to get you to 480.

the DV50 is 480 – note the movie file is fine. Mastered just fine with the Io and FCP5.1.4

Try running the 10 bit movie through an advanced format conversion of compressor instead of Qt export.

You wouldn’t happen to be looking at it on an HD LCD monitor? they all line-double SD, looks terrible. judge it only on an SD monitor.

Jeremy – the file is fine, I’m sure the adv features can make it better but that is not the issue that I’m posting here.

Steve, I have a SD TV (using the analog component from the Kona 3) and a Apple 23″ LCD (SDI to DVI) so I can set it to actual pixels only. Both look bad.
