DVCPRO50 AJ-SD93 Deck
I have ‘inherited’ this deck. I do not shoot in DVCPro, but rather Mini DV. I have not had a problem digitizing my footage with the cassette adapter, but I have not been able to master back to Mini DV. I have tried everything. I work with FCP5 on a Mac dual G5. Am I out of luck, or does someone know how I can master back to Mini DV tape?

Must be a switch on it or something to get it to record DV25… it does do it i Know… and the tapes will probablhy play in a sony deck too. Might not play in a consumer camera though. dunno… it only records DVCPRO25 (which is better than miniDV) and 50, but there has to be a switch or something on it to tell it to record that signal.

I don’t believe that you can record to a mini DV tape on this deck. Most of the Panasonic DVCPro decks will play back a Mini DV tape with the adapter and after changing the playback settings in the menu but will not record back onto Mini DV tapes. At least that’s the way it works with our old “750’s”.

I read the manual and it did not say anything about being able to record to Mini DV tape, but the cassette adapter has the little rec/save button on it so I thought I would throw it out there for someone to confirm before I start mastering to DVCPRO tapes.

The AJ-SD93 can record on medium or large DVCPRO cassettes with a maximum record time of 184 minutes (92 minutes in DVCPRO50). It can playback DVCPRO50, DVCPRO, DV and DVCAM tapes, automatically sensing the correct format.

Why don’t you sell it and buy a DSR-11 or something that matches your shooting format?
