Will be digitizing DVCPro50 and don’t have SDI (AJA LA only). If I use component out of the deck what settings should I use for capture. The footage is all green screen stuff to be worked on in after effects.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    I am in PAL land.
    Thanks

    Miriana,
You can use any setting from DVCPro50 up to 10 bit uncompressed depending on your system configuration (storage and processors). DVCPro50 uses 4:2:2 compression so you can get a clean chroma key. If I were doing the project I would work at 8 or 10 bit uncompressed depending on the storage requirements. You could also do all of your green screen after effects work uncompressed and then export the final composite to FCP in DVCPro50 if space is an issue. Good luck.

When I have used Panasonic equipment in the past I have had best luck using the component BETACAM input settings, as opposed to the generic component input settings. However, the best way to find out is to put a tape with color bars in to your dvcpro50 deck, and then use the fcp vectorscope to see which setting is more accurate. Does this make sense?

Thank you very much for the info. I was thinking of using 8 bit uncompressed for storage reasons. Will this be OK?
So I just go component out of the deck? Any othwer issues?

8-bit will work great. Yes, you go out of the component out and into the AJA Io component in. If you’re working in NTSC set your Easy Setup to AJA Io- NTSC US Betacam 8-bit Uncompressed.

    Good luck

Thanks very much for your help. Will be doing the digitizing tomorrow and will test the colourbars. I am using PAL.

The footage was apparently shot in frame mode (progresssive scan). Does this make a difference? Couldn’t get a stable image – some kind of colour phasing. Each time the digitized clip was stoped and startes it was a different colour on the PAL monitor. Why was that?
