  • DVCPRO HD? – best codec for a 30fps or 24fps master from HDV at 30mbs or less?

We only have our .m2t files on certain sectons of this film – no tape. Apple said they only support going from the Z1 or deck into FCP 5.

We need a master FCP file from our HDV .m2t files. Since FCP 5 won’t work with our .m2t files like we asssumed it would, we did a test with the DC30 lossless codec and it played back too choppy.

Since we don’t have raids it looks like the DVCPROHD or Apple Intermediate Codec are our top 2 choices. I was told not to deinterlace but, we did a test with AIC and it looks 100% better deineterlaced.

I am thinking to go with DVCPROHD 720P @ 24 fps. Can anybody with more experience give me some tips on how to get there or if I am on the wrong track. I heard that Twixter is very good but I am not sure if we can shell out the bucks for just a one time use.

For 60i to 24p conversions, check out my Standards Converter @ http://www.nattress.com

You’d have to do that to all your footage though, and although it should look good, will be time-consuming. Is there no way you can play your m2t back to tape, and then re-capture as HDV?

Or you could use MPEG streamclip to convert the m2t to something more edit friendly, or even uncompressed, and then can you use FCP to turn it into HDV by rendering on a HDV timeline? Just an idea?
