    Hi There,

I’m working on a project in DVCPRO HD 1080i 29.97 in FCP 5.1.2 and the client wants it delivered in HDCAM. we are thinking to rent a deck. I’m not sure if its possible to output through HD SDI direct to HDCAM deck. never done before and there is no budget to rent the deck for testing first. I’m using Quad G5 & Kona LHe card.

the original plan was to use a DVCPRO HD tape and run to a dub house for cloning but the length of project is more then 63 min. I don’t know if there is any DVCPRO HD tape that records longer than that. we will need to have all the program in one tape thou.

Will audio go through HD SDI together with video to HDCAM ? any special setting ? once we output from avid and we end up connecting the XLR.

    All the best,

It should be no problem running HDSDI out to the deck and laying off to tape to a HDCAM master. I’ve done it quite a number of times myself with DVCPRO HD to HDCAM master and never had any problems. Video and audio go through the HDSDI. You’ll need a remote cable connected from the Remote Out connection on the back of the HDCAM deck to your capture card. Also, when you black and code your tape, set the deck to Internal and Preset for the blacking, and then to Internal and Regenerate when you lay off to tape. If you don’t, your time code will get messed up. Good luck.

I believe there is a new tape that rolls up to 120 minutes in DVCPro HD, but it only works in the Studio model machines, not the 1200A or the 1400.

Yes, audio is embedded in SDI.

The easiest way to manage this project is to us an AJA Kona board. Edit in DVCPro HD, then output directly from your timeline via HD-SDI to HDCAM. This is a pretty standard workflow in HD Broadcast post production.
