    Hello Cow People!
I’ve read in the COW FAQ the answer to the downconvert from HD to SD with FCP using the Kona cards. It made the procedure quite clear to me but still, before sending out a commercial on Beta tape, I’d like to run a few questions by you fine folks.

Do I use the HD bars generators in FCP timeline or NTSC Bars? Will the Kona 2 convert from Rec 709 to Rec 601 if I leave it to Auto in the YUV to RGB conversion pop-up? And why is my brain leaking from both ears?

    Thank you.

HD bars. This is an HD sequence. You are downconverting the HD sequence, so the colorspace will change. The bars will adjust to the SD space, but they need to match the HD one you are currently in.

Got me there. I would think so…

Because HD hurts…too much to know. And you can’t know it all. Thus my semi-response to question 2.

Great! Thanks for the help Shane. The colorbars need to be in the standard the sequence originates, and the colorspace will take care of itself. Now I will go and pray to the Kona Gods…

Either not enough coffee or not enough beer. Possibly both.

I will keep try to up my coffee intake, there is lots of room for improvement in that area.
    Thank you Arnie!
