We are delivering a series that was shot DVCPro HD 720p – shot on the HDX900. We will be mastering it to 1080i – and using the Kona 3 for our ‘cross convert’. My question is which codec should we use when loading the tapes for the Highest Resolution output. I am not too worried about Hard Drive space, or throughput – we have an Apple XServe Raid.

    Our Gear:
    G5 Tower, FCP 6.0.4, Kona 3 i/o

Is there a huge difference between Kona DVCPro HD, Kona DVCPRo Pro Res (HQ), etc…

If it was shot DVCPRo HD is the DVCPRo HD codec the one to go with?

If anyone has comments, I’m ready for my codec lesson.

    Thanks!
    Andrea

Yup. Then just output. Fairly easy.

Sounds good to me – I just want to make sure I am maximizing picture quality. But if there is minimal difference between the other codecs – then DVCPro HD it is.

    Thanks!
