  • DVCPro HD 1080i 24p and 24p Advanced workflow questions

I have a Kona 3 and Final Cut 5.1.1. This is a workflow question about being given P2 cards with footage from an HVX200 and needing to go out to HDCAM.

The footage is shot 1080i/24p and/or 24p Advanced. I know how to import the P2 footage fine. My question is, if I go about using Cinema Tools to remove the pulldown (normal or advanced) I will be left with clips running at 23.98, but I see no way of actually playing this footage out through the Kona card to record it to an HDCAM tape at 1080psf 23.98. Am I wrong? The pulldown removal leaves the compression codec of clips untouched, so they’re still compressed as DVCPro HD 1080i/60. I create a sequence that uses that compression, but with a frame rate of 23.98. I drop the 23.98 clips on the timeline and it plays fine, no render bars. But there’s no Video Playback choice that will play this timeline out the Kona 3 card. Just doesn’t seem to be a compatible combination. What’s the point of shooting and editing with this new 1080i 24p option if you can’t output? Sure, I could drop the clips into an Uncompressed timeline at 23.98 and render, but that’s not a good answer.

    Any help?

all Kona HD cards will play this footage a 1080 23.98, 1080 60i and also downconvert the footage to SD also.

HDCam records to tape at either 23.98 (24) or 59.94 (60i), there are also DVCPROHD decks ( 1200a , 1400 & 1700 ) that also support the output, as well as D5 and HDCAM SRW
